This week at Hope 12/07/2021

Yesterday in worship we observed the Second Sunday in Advent and heard the powerful call to repentance from John the Baptist. Our English translation captures the connection between repentance and faith with, “Produce fruit that shows you have changed your hearts and lives.” This prepares the way for Jesus to enter in and take charge over you. What a blessed event where the Lord becomes my Lord, entirely trustworthy! This is our Advent occupation, to keep turning to Christ, ready and willing to receive correction and guidance to eternal life.

You really need to make your way to the church this Wednesday! The seasonal decorations are beautiful and uplifting. You will be blessed in attendance at the Advent services at 11:30 am and 6:30 pm. And this week the noon fellowship meal will be spectacular—the annual joint effort by Dorcas and LWML to make sure we get the Christmas spirit. The evening meal at 5:30 pm is sure to be a great gathering as well. Come and be renewed in Hope!

You are invited to take part in Tacos and Prayers this Saturday. Join us at the church for preparation at 9 am and/or join us at MBC Auto for distribution at 10 am. This is a great opportunity to be a blessing to our community.

Great things happened in the Voters Assembly yesterday. Along with updates on the wide variety of Hope’s ministry, we elected a full slate of servant-leaders for the coming year. We also approved the disbursement of Mission Grants:

  • $5000 to Hispanic Outreach at St. Matthew, Westfield (Houston),  led by Rev. Arturo Mendez
  • $5000 to Iantha Scheiwe, Mission of Christ Network Field Lead, facilitating mission partnerships with the Lutheran Church—Hong Kong Synod
  • $5000 to POBLO, People of the Book Lutheran Outreach, focused on sharing Jesus with Muslim immigrants and refugees
  • $2500 each to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and Concordia University Texas for church worker scholarships

Reminder—the Christmas Festival Service will be held on Sunday, December 26, at 10:00 am (No Discipleship classes). Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held on Friday, December 24, at 6:00 pm.

The Lord has supplied each of us generously with daily provision. I encourage you to make regular and faithful Offerings at Hope in faith and gratitude for God’s loving care. Here are three ways to do that:

•          On the church website by the Give with Us button;

•          Through the Vanco mobile app GivePlus.
