This week at Hope 03/01/2022

Yesterday in worship we observed the Transfiguration of Our Lord, the culmination of the Epiphany season. Christ manifests God’s glory to all the world, and up on the mountain Moses and Elijah and Peter and James and John were privileged to view His brilliant glory with their own eyes. We don’t yet have the same experience, but Christ is made known to us in His word of grace and forgiveness and love. Because He is God’s chosen one, we listen to Him, and that is enough to carry us through this day into eternity.

In adult Discipleship class we heard a wonderful testimony to God’s divine mercy and strengthening presence from Julie Samuel, a missionary with POBLO, People of the Book Lutheran Outreach. Motivated by salvation in Christ, we will be pursuing renewed opportunities for Gospel outreach in our area.

The 40 Days of Lent begin this week with Ash Wednesday. We will have services at 11:30am and 6:30pm, both with the opportunity for Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion. Our theme this season is “By His Stripes: Healing wounded relationships”. This week The Destructive Pattern of Escalation is seen as troops overtake Jesus in Gethsemane and He stands before Caiaphas. We will have fellowship meals at Noon and 5:30pm on the five following Wednesdays.

Daily Devotions for Lent, “Suffering Servant”, are available at the church. Thanks to our LWML ladies for preparing these from Lutheran Hour Ministries.

A Hope outing to Bob Bullock Museum is now scheduled for Friday, March 11. We will meet at the church at 10:15am and return at 3:00pm. This will include museum time and lunch at a restaurant. Wheelchairs will be available. See Suzanne about tickets–$16 for museum and theater. Participants will pay for their lunch. Sign up sheet is at the Welcome Center at church.

The Braille Ministry at Hope is finally able to acquire paper again and will be starting up this week with groups from Christ and Redeemer churches. If you are interested in serving with Hope’s group, talk to Ruth Reinhardt.

Scripture readings next Sunday—Deuteronomy 26:1-11; Romans 10:8b-13; Luke 4:1-13.
