This week at Hope 8/02/2021

Yesterday in worship we observed the Tenth Sunday after Pentecost and rallied around this truth, “Everything that God requires, He provides.” This is the nature of our gracious and loving God who always delights in giving. It is seen most clearly in the gift of salvation. God provides the basis for our eternal life with Him, namely the death and resurrection of Jesus. AND He provides the way into that as we “believe in Him whom God sent.” AND He provides the means to such faith, the Holy Spirit working through Word and Sacraments to convert our hearts to genuine trust in the Lord. From start to finish, from birth to death, from creation to resurrection, God provides it all.

Our Sunday Adult Discipleship class began a new study of the Epistle of James. Great discussion and timely application! Don’t sell yourself short—every Christian needs to be in regular conversation with the Bible.

The Ladies of Hope are gathering this Tuesday to celebrate “Summer in the USA”.  All women are invited to this annual Summer Salad Supper at 5:30 pm in the Friendship Hall. Please bring a salad to share and a thought about a favorite Summer Memory. Drinks and Desserts will be provided. Call Suzanne at 512-517-4413 to reserve your place.

The next reading for Hope’s Book Club is Being Mortal, by Atul Gawande. You have about 48 hours to undertake this captivating read on disease, illness, incapacity, and the latter days of our earthly life. Book Club will meet on August 4 and August 18, 1:00 to 2:30 pm, in Hope Harbor.

A new session of GriefShare will begin on Thursday, August 12. This could a good help and support to you, or you could invite someone you know to come and benefit. The meeting time will be 6-8 pm in Hope Harbor. Talk to Betty Bobo for more details.

Get ready for one last Summertime Fellowship lunch on Wednesday, August 11, in the Parish Hall. This one is also an Ice Cream Social, so come hungry and leave happy. A sing-along of all the good songs, dominoes, board games—everyone is invited!

The Lord has supplied each of us generously with daily provision. I encourage you to make regular and faithful Offerings at Hope in faith and gratitude for God’s loving care. Here are three ways to do that:

•          In-person at the offering plate;

•          On the church website by the Give with Us button;

•          Through the Vanco mobile app GivePlus.
